2K Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the anticipated third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Transition Comes After Lukewarm Feedback

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a clearer game identity.

Ismailer noted that the developers is now overhauling the project with a renewed focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire text from the president's announcement:

Dear Team—

I know you all just completed your meeting - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a message, I stated the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the necessity for a clearer identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to mind and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our fans.

The trust in this project strengthens every day. To advance the incredible progress you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of talks, he officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as the acclaimed shooter, and lately, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the progress of the game in the time to ahead.

Title Information and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a public demo. At the time, the developers presented the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling step forward on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary explains. "Challenge the rivals with new abilities, stakes, and obstacles that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, gamble everything, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The decision is up to you."

Project Ethos does not have an official launch window or platforms, but fans can anticipate more updates as development continues.
